Is there a way to reset the position from within analyze mode without clicking the gear twice? Clicking the arrows in the game history resets the board and turns off analyze. Once you've captured a piece, you have to go back and replay the variation if you want to capture a different way, etc..

Yes, it would be good to have a way to reset the analyze board without having to do the turn off/on trick.

I will think about it. I'll probably end up having two buttons instead of one. The gear will be the "Think" button (I don't like the name Analyze, people tend to associate it with chess engines) and a new "Move" button which will turn think mode off. If you click "Think" while you are already in that mode it will reset the board.

Does that sound acceptable?

yes, but I was more thinking like a way to drag captured pieces back on the board during think mode or a back up/take a move back without resetting to the initial position

Ok, I see two ways of handling that: I can keep track of the pieces you move and capture and let you move back and forth on your own moves or I can let you add pieces to the board so that you can setup any position you like including bringing captured pieces back.

I think I like the first option better, but I don't see where I could fit these two new commands in the interface. What do you think?

IMO the second option becomes kind of unnecessary if the first is available. As far as putting the option in the interface, maybe use the arrows from the history box to track think moves instead of game moves while in think mode?

You convinced me, I think it is a really good feature, and one that will set this site apart from others. I'll play with this over the weekend. Hopefully something good will come out!
