I am trying to improve my OTB rating. I am curious what Correspondence Chess players think is the best method of improvement.

Not to mention being new to CC, I find it a kick in the pants.

What has helped me is setting up a board and making a move within one or two minutes of thinking time, thus simulating OTB with your games when you play CC. I find that I spend only a few seconds on some moves to several minutes on others. This way, my CC strength will be as close as possible to OTB. This will help some, but you have to anylize your games afterwords to see where you could have done better etc. Practicing your strategies on CC games will help you with your OTB games etc.. I think there are many ways.

I am doing roughly the same thing. Moving as I would in an OTB game, and hoping the CC players will punish me for mistakes. thanks for the comment Joseph.

analysis of your games when they're done is key to improvement. also studying tactical problems. looking at master games. there's no substitute for hard work
