I don't know if this has been asked already (25 pages in the forum and no means of searching by keywords... ), but... how come there is no way, in "think mode", of choosing the promotion piece once a pawn reaches the 8th (or 1st) rank? I know that in think mode you can move pieces around the chessboard regardless of what they are, so you can actually move a pawn around as if it were a Queen, but... wouldn't it be prettier if it actually resembled a Queen? Has anyoneone come up with this question already? Miguel?

If I'm not mistaken you are the first one to ask this question.

Because the current way the promotion is done is via a resubmit, so it would probably take some coding work to factor it. (May mean that all pages take longer to load since they would all need some chess logic in them (note how the current thinking board doens't know the rules of the game). This would increase the bandwidth of the site so may make it more expensive to run? But these are just my guesses

The rules of chess, including promotion, could be coded with client-side javascript; it may be a little hard, but not impossibile (as you can notice here: http://www.playchess960.com/chess960player/pgn.html, make sure to check the "allow recording" box and move pieces around).

By the way, I forgot to add: keeping track of captured pieces during think mode would also be cool since it's one of the main reasons (I believe) that one uses think mode for. To visualize a plan and the outcome of an attack, evaluating the change of material points. True, it's always good practice to analyse it mentally, but hey... then there should be no think mode at all. So, while we're at it, why not add this feature?
