960 chess with it's castling and set-ups is probably a bit much work but could we have instead a very simple alternate chess game called "shuffle chess". you simply create 10 or 20 different board set ups ( back row all different ) and their is no castling. if you want to play shuffle chess you just click on a button and at random you are given one of the 20 set up and at random you play black or white ( thus making 40 different possibilities ). :-D

these would be unrated games. just a simple alternative for some fun.

I don't know how the site handles everything, though I imagine castling won't work unless you get lucky and the king and rook are on the normal starting squares, but you can use the "More Options" link on the Open Games to paste in a FEN for a 960 position and it will set up the board.

So you should be able to set up some games that way and play.

i tried to do this but i don't see where to find a "fen" to paste in . where does one go to set up a "fen" ?

i found a fen thru google...alot of work for one game..i guess i will play 960 at sm.

Chess players ought to know how to use FEN (Forsyth–Edwards Notation). It's really very simple and I'm sure there's enough on the Web to cover the basics.
