I've joined to FICS to play real-time games, I've played 3 games (vs 18xx, 15xx, 15xx players) and I've lost all 3!!!! I'm depressed. I thought I had improved my game play, but now I see I'm worse than two years ago. So, hereafter, think-evil-button is over, I will never use it again. I know I will lose a lot of points, but I prefer to be a 14xx player that learns and improves his play rather than a 20xx player that doesn't!

You can hardly evaluate your chess after three games.Cheer up,chess is as much psychological as it is tactical,if you play when depressed you've lost from the outset.

You're right. I was very upset with myself when I wrote the previous message. There were a lot of years since my last not-turn-based game, and it's true I've been very nervous on that 3 games. I've not played my chess. I've lost them from the first move. However I still think that the "think-button" is not good, because during these 3 games I've had the necessity of using "a think button" at some stage of the game. And that's not a good thing to wish on a game. Maybe the trick is to understand that turn-based games are not intended to improve your normal game skills. Turn-based chess is a thing and normal chess is a different thing. However, from now on, I will try to play without using the "Think button". I believe it will be healthier for my mind.

To be fair, using the thinking button doesn't give you candidates -- that's still skill.

So you think it might be time to rethink the Think button?
I think it's OK if you think carefully when using it. Otherwise I think one can become a little obsessed with it. Philippe has a good point, too. I think.
