There was a time when a player was fined, but not forfeited, for exceeding the time limit. Maybe they think both a fine and forfeit is progress.
Drug testing, cheating, fast time limits, huge entry fees, fines. All in the hopes of making chess a spectator sport with the ultimate goal of generating huge profits. It’s the way things are done these days. I laugh, but who would have thought people would actually watch poker being played on television?
PS: Does anybody know where I can get a Magnus Carlsen bobblehead?
