Chess and football do have an amazing amount of similarities though.They both have a midfield,and defence is crucial in both.A diagnol run or pass looks like a bishop move.A long straight run or pass looks like a Rook move.Great players that can get to seemingly anywhere on the field or players that are the best in their team by some way like Maradonna and Zidane remind me of the Queen in chess.A clever ball over the top or a threaded through ball is football's knight move.The goal which has to protected vigorously is the King.Short passes or runs look like pawn moves.
