No place to go so might as well gobble up some pawns.

Wow. You really had him then because otherwise Bf6 would at least of allowed for even material -- 16. ... Qb6 might of helped out there... ?:-(

Black should be ok if he had played 17... Bxe4, I think. White would then have to capture on d4, and black could retreat the bishop to g6.
