I play the KIA. I have this in common with aknightout. (Does his name give away his opening) The KIA is like the KID with an extra move. It has to be better than the KID.
More on this later

It's weird that this statement isn't true. Having an extra move surely has to make a dynamic, attacking opening even better and yet:
1. the KID is a dynamic, attacking opening but the KIA is stodgy and drawish; 2. the Sicilian is a dynamic, attacking opening but the English is stodgy and drawish.
How can this be?

Maybe you are being rhetorical but 2) The sicilian is only dynamic because c5 has been played after e4 was committed to. To get the same effect plus the tempo you'd need the opponent to respond 1..e5 to 1c4, and then continue playing moves as if the did have the extra tempo when they really don't.
The most obvious example of why things can't be reversed would be something like 1f4 e5 (Froms Gambit) is OK for both sides (theoretically favouring white, but at lower levels black often has practical advantage). However trying to use from gambit from whites side to gain a tempo is daft as after playing 1e4 no opponent is going to play f5. It's just in some openings this inconsistency is not noticable until further into the opening lines.

At my level it is meaningless to say an opening is drawish. I draw less than 10% of games. I am sure that I have hundreds of games that would have been drawish if played by grandmasters, However, either I made a fatel mistake or my opponent did.

Good point, phys. Even boring games can get interesting quick after I make a mistake!
Going one step further, classical descriptions of openings don't really apply as much to a player that is a defensive specialist.
Oddly, my own ratio looked better playing Black recently which I had not expected. I don't think I'm defensive in nature but on the other hand, I don't know the openings well and play fast so perhaps should play more defensively in the opening until some level of improvement is attained (a long wait).
I am going to try playing a extended period with only the KIA and report back how I've done.
