Being a newbie I hung my Bishop out to dry. So I had no choice really, but to exchange my Bishop for two pawns. I thought destroying blacks pawn structure around his King would be at least good compensation. Raeth play it beautifully. Had I been playing against a weaker player, the out come would perhaps have gone my way. I was very disappointed with the f3 move allowing the Knight fork. Good for Raeth to see it. And Congratulation to him. I think I learned a lot. Thanks

After I have had a little time to review perhaps instead of h4, h3 would have been better. Black appears to have no play. h3 blocks in the Knight. his Bishop and Queen or blocked in. I could have then moved Nd2 connected rooks. I would have center control. My position would have been much better than Black. I would like to hear some thoughts on this.
Thanks

h3 doesn't stop Ng4, since your knight is unprotected. If you trade knights you end up with doubled g-pawns.

Yes, having lost the bishop, your only chance is to get as much material as possible in return for it, try to attack and hope that your opponent makes a mistake.

Why are you moving pawns at all? You have a material deficit and your queen's knight and rook are undeveloped.

Black appears to have no play.

The knight isn't blocked at all. After ...Rh8, protecting against the queen invasion on h7, the knight has plenty of scope for moving, especially given the discovered attack on your unprotected Ng5.

I could have then moved Nd2 connected rooks.

This is a priority. However, note that, without open files to operate on, your rooks aren't going to achieve a lot in the way of attack.

Black has a more than adequate grip on the centre — he has strong pawns there and plenty of pieces around. By the time you've developed your pieces and opened a file to get your rooks into the game, black's king will be safe and his material advantage will end the game.

Black has a massive advantage. He has more material, he's ahead in development and he has semi-open files for his rooks to use against your king. His only disadvantage is that his king is out in the open but he has time to get it safe before you can attack.

Raeth play it beautifully. Had I been playing against a weaker player, the out come would perhaps have gone my way.

Don't kid yourself. You lost the game not because of your opponent's skill but because you made two big mistakes in only eighteen moves. After your tenth move, all black had to do to win the game was avoid blundering.

14.h3 Ng4?? 15.Qh7+ Kf6 16.Ne4#. But, yes, once the h-file is safe, the Nf6 has plenty of options.
