Good idea. But right now, I'm thinking of some method of recording current games along with notes , variations and analysis which I can also keep and run through after the game has finished.

Fritz's database functionality is fairly minimal but it's more than adequate for keeping track of your own games. I don't find it awkward to use -- quite the opposite, in fact.
I have Fritz 8 but I doubt much has changed since then. They won't have added more database functionality as that would compete with Chessbase and they probably won't have removed any, either. And I imagine the fundamentals of the user interface have remained pretty much the same.
