Austin is correct, only players with established ratings (i.e. played 25+ games) have their ratings protected when they play against unrated or provisionally rated players.
I am adding unrated games soon, at the very least to support games starting from a position, in which case it may not be fair to rate players.

Then the open game can be misinterpreted... I saw the unrated word on it and thought that I was going to play an unrated game and have the chance to discuss openings with my opponent...
Not fair... Why not make unrated games available and avoid this type of missinterpretation?
