Maybe an RSS Feed, with items occurring when an opponent makes their move, or when a game comes within a particular time of expiring?
That would be more open - not requring Firefox specifically, and cause less traffic to the site.

I have noticed that emails come seconds after an move is play by the opposition. Why not just an email notifier for the mean time? I think this is a very good idea though.
