Today lets remember John Adams. John Adams did far more to make the Declaration of independence possible than Thomas Jefferson. John Adams was certainly very intelligent, but his IQ was probably below 150. He was hard working. Everyone admired, or at least acknowledged, his personal integrity including his enemies.

I vote for his cousin Samuel Adams. When his Beer was getting taxed wrongly he/they made the great choice of throwing tea instead of beer into Boston harbor. Now that was good thinking..... :-(O)

I am not American, and I don't like to spoil your party, but I am sure that in all history books, all over the world, Thomas Jefferson, as the vice-president of John Adams, and later on the 3th. president of the U,S., got all the credits of the 'Declaration of Independence'
Between George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, John Adams looks like a very ''GREY''person. In the two periods he was the USA.president, he did not achieve one major change, although I agree, he had some good ideas.
But if you americans like to celebrate the 4th. of july, fine..
I would like to see some 'Jimmy Carter Celebration Day' and 'Bill Clinton Celebration Day'
a little bit more sunshine....

and for those who believe there's a bear in your beer, please contact me. I resolve that problem within a few seconds, you only need to send me the beer, and I take care of the bear.
cheers

John Adams was the 2nd president of the US. He served only 1 term as president. MrDJRVD refers to his 2 periods as president. Possibly the second period he refers to is the presidency of John Quincy Adams the son of John Adams.

The greatest achievement of John Adams as president was avoiding war with Nepolean and France. The US had ample provocation to declare war on France. Had the US declared war on France it is unlikely that France would have sold us the Louisiana territory during Jefferson's administration.
John Adams made a serious mistake when he retained most of the cabinet members of the Washington administration. Those he retained especially Pickering took orders from Hamilton instead of Adams.
An unfortunate error during the Adams presidency was the Alien and Sedition Acts, seemingly contradicting the first amendment.
Many historians rank John Adams in the second Quartile of effective presidents.

The greatest Achievements of John Adams were before his presidency. He more than anyone persuaded the second continental congress to vote for independence. As ambassadors to France he and Franklin persuaded the French to commit their navy to our war effort. Without navel support the army's victory at Yorktown would have meant a British withdraw by sea instead of surrender.
Adams also secured vital Dutch loans to support the war effort.
