I play someone on ICC with the time control 20 min plus 3 min a move. ICC discourages but does not forbid using books while you play. I make moves from my book until my opponent leaves book. Then I finish the ICC game. Afterwards I finish reading the game in the book I was following until my opponent varied. I find this more interesting than reading from start to finish. Also I think copying grandmaster moves is the best way to learn.
How do you read your favorite opening book?

I presume you meant plus 3 seconds per move
I don't have a favorite opening book

I should have written 20min plus 180 seconds per move. I need time to study the relevant sections of the book while I am playing.
Glad at least 1 person read my post.

You're sure they don't forbid using books, physie? While they're OK in correspondence, like here at Alice, they're (usually? always?) disallowed when playing live.

I deleted most of the ICC file on abuse. This statement regarding books comes at the end.
ICC Help: abuse
ICC does not officially have a policy against using opening books or notes during your ICC games. However, note that some players consider this to be unethical.

OK. Seems strange to me, though.
