It would be nice to have some sort of way to indicate what times of day you tend to play, especially when choosing open games.

For example, I tend to play 10h-17h GMT, so I'd rather play someone who was available during those hours, wherever they were, then selecting for example someone also in the UK, but who only played 20h-23h GMT. Someone who played late on local time in Asia might be therefore better for me than someone in the Americas.

I'm not sure how well I've explained this, but I hope you understand. As an example, you could use a clock, or a bar:

0 1 2
12345678901234567890123
+********++++

Where + means I occasionally play then, and * means usually. You'd have to pick a standard time zone, either GMT(UTC), or the one for the QA server would seem most sensible.

That bar worked much better when I was typing it in in a fixed width font :-)

how about a bar under the game..bright green dot is gmt...you place a red lit dot along a set of
lines..left and right from the center dot when
you usually play.

and i would still like an avatar on the playing page :-P

philb,

interesting idea. FYI I'm in China and usually play between 11h-19h GMT (Zulu).

Isn't it better to play when your opponent cannot? That's the appeal of correspondence and turn-based chess. You have three days or more per move and your opponent does not need to keep the same schedule?
