This is a game I played on yahoo. I play white, white to play. I went on to lose. Should this have been a win, draw, or loss for me? Thanks!!!

It is difficult to know at such an early stage.

The variations that you present were calculated by you? On 7.Bxc3 instead of 8.Bd2 I would have done 8.Rc1 or 8.Qc2. I didn't understand the move 9...Qf6 as the priority seems to be to develop the bishop at c8. Move 12 by White 12.Bc3 is also something I couldn't understand as the bishop went back and forth from c3 to d2 and then to c3... I didn't understand move 13 by Black 13...Ne7. Isn't Nxf3 and exchanging at the point f3 almost winning for Black? Even if three officers are exchanged the resulting endgame would be pleasant for Black to play if not winning...

There are many points in the 15.Nxh7 variation that I didn't get: 18.e4 with what purpose? White is about to be cruxified and he opens the position even more (not to mention the loss of a pawn...) Also, instead of 20...Qh4 why not 20...Ne2+ and then Rxh2 with mate in a few moves? The whole variation is chaotic and poorly calculated...

Variations? Oh I see now what happened! I was entering moves on chesspad and made mistakes, then I just clicked the back arrow and reentered the correct moves. It must have saved the previous moves as a variation. I'll go through it again to make sure it is correct. I am very lazy, I didn;t calculate any variations. :-D

1. d4 Nf6 2. Nf3 d5 3. e3 Nc6 4. c4 e6

Very strange way of entering the Queen's Gambit Declined. This is a much inferior line to the mainline and Black is probably already equal.

5. Nc3 Bb4 6. Bd2 Bxc3 7. Bxc3 Ne4 8. Bd2 O-O 9. Bd3 Qf6 10. cxd5 exd5

You are way behind in development, why open things up now?

11. O-O Bg4 12. Bc3 Ng5 13. Be2 Ne7 14. Nxg5

This is a good move that allows White to equalize.

14...Bxe2 15. Nxh7?? Kxh7?

15...Qa6! wins. Very hard move to see.

16. Qxe2 Rh8 17. Bb4 Nf5 18. e4 Nxd4 19. Qh5+ Kg8 20. Qxd5??

20...Ne2+ 21. Kh1 Rxh2+! 22. Kxh2 Qh4#! I stopped analyzing here. You had nice ideas but be careful with execution or it's your head on the chopping block.

7.Bxc3
15.Nxh7

are the correct moves.

So 15.Nxh7 is ?? because of Qa6, right? likewise 20.Qxd5 is ?? because of the mating combination 20...Ne2+ and so on.

I feel 17.Bb4 and 18.e4 also deserve '?'.

What about the final position? With perfect play on both sides is it a win, loss, or draw, or too early to tell?

15.Nxh7 seems like a blunder... You are opening the h-file against your king castled in that same side... It is just not streetwise... I wouldn't even consider it...
