That wasn't the players' fault, they won their titles on the pitch. The top clubs in other countries also get help from referees against smaller clubs. The problem in Italy is that they're much more preoccupied with referees than in other countries, you won't see so much analysis of the referees' work anywhere else. Combine that with the fact that they're mostly quite inept...
