I'm starting this thread to initiate discussions about Team Philippines. I'm hoping we can use this thread to achieve the following:

1. Allow interested Filipino players here in QA who weren't able to join us in the on-going match with Spain to signify their interest to play in future matches.

2. Exchange ideas on how to make Team Philippines better.

Background:

1. A 16-board RP Team was formed more than a month ago to play a friendly match with Spain. The match is currently tied at 2-2, with 12 games still on-going.

2. Our team captain is alib2004. It was through his effort that the initial team was built.

3. Team matches are still at a formative stage here in QA. As such, there are no hard rules regarding team composition, eligibility, etc. Right now, each match is governed by a set of rules agreed to by the team captains of the competing teams.

4. Spain, Argentina, Latin America, Brazil, Canada and Rest of Asia have formed, or are in process of forming, their own teams. My understanding is that we will be playing friendly matches against these teams in the future.

5. There were attempts by another team to recruit non-playing Pinoys to their rosters.

My personal thoughts:

1. The current 16-man team is not set in stone. It was assembled primarily for the match vs. Spain. We are free to form and reform our team for any given match, as long as we have a good base of interested players to draw from. This will also ensure that more of us will be able to participate in these future team matches.

2. As a mininum, I think we should aim for at least 24 players in the pool. More will be better.

OK, I think I've said enough. Team captain Alib, how about sharing with us your plans for future matches?

This is also the cue for interested Pinoy players to signify their interest to join the pool. (RiddleMeQuick & man_from_mars, ano pang hinihintay ninyo?) ;-)

Yes, the idea of having a Team Philippines is definitely a "good move - as in chess" :-D

We do not have any rules not limitations yet for team/group formation here in QA but the essence of playing team games really is to share knowledge with each player to aid in developing each other's chess play aside of course for the obvious poetic reasons. (camaraderie, competition, etc...)

The team will continue to be an informal team and players will vary for team Philippines during the course of time. As mentioned, the team was formed initially to play against Spain and members just joined from the forums or invited.

Hopefully, we can have established members of Team Philippines (will be done as tournaments are conducted based on participation) OR once the site has the feature on which we are pretty confident MIGUEL will accomodate in the near future :)

Mabuhay!!!

Note: The team captain is OPEN. I suggest that this belong to the top rated Pinoy player as they will be consulted later on for games and strategies for the team... ;-)

I also agreed to the idea of Duncan to have a Team Philippines but there are some problems in this situation.

The problems are:
1. There are no team matches on this site not like the other chess site.

2. When you ask and call for players to play, like the games against Spain you wait for them to participate.

3. There are no rating for team matches just the individual rating.

4. There are no automatic two games in one match game one white and one black. You are just playing one game each match.

I'm not saying that we can not form a team even there is no team matches here. We can and as I said I agree to form it.

If we are forming a team we have to call and ask all our Kababayan to participate to our team. The team captain should not be necessary the top rated player but he should be guided by him.

I will suggest something if we form a team. The creator is alib2004 and the captain will be either mandaragit or chessman2004 or they be co-captain.
