Ilona llega con la lluvia is one movie by Sergio Cabrera that I would like to see. This is one is on my 'must see' list.

http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0116612/

I also remember seeing "Crónica de una muerte anunciada" and thought that it was very well crafted.

Argentina is also known to produce excellent movies and I can think of "Sur", "La noche de los lápices" and many others... I am surprised that none of the Argentinians here have sported their philmography as it is very, very rich :-D

Argentina is also known to produce excellent movies

I've seen a couple of good movies during a trip to Buenos Aires a few years ago. One is "Nueve Reinas" (Nine Queens) which then became a big success everywhere, even got a US release and then a Hollywood remake titled Criminal. The other one is "Felicidades" which tells the stories of several people in a small town during Christmas Eve.

Also the last few films of Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar have Argentinians in main roles.

One Argentinian movie I'm after is "El Juego de Arcibel" (Arcibel's Game) which by reading reviews I know is about a journalist who writes a chess column in a newspaper. This one I really want to watch, but so far I haven't seen it listed on the Spanish movie channels I get or on DVD.

Of the movies that have chess as the central theme the one that I like the most is "Knight Moves" that portrays pretty accurately chess players: Good looking men that get action all the time by hot women. Yep... That's all of the guys here :-D Forget about the stereotype that chess players are geeks because it ain't true :-D

"The Luzhin defense" is a pathetic movie... I saw it but it was a complete waste of my time...

Most of you will know the short animation film Geri's Game (by Pixar), but for the rest, you can watch it at http://www.pixar.com/shorts/gg/
Have fun!

It's about a central theme of chess players, too: fighting your own ego. ;-)

Somehow believability of Eternal Sunshine did not bother me. The whole idea was kind of crazy anyway and the characters whacky. I look at it as a fantasy although it does not take place in a regular fantasy world. It was somehow a paradoxical sad story filled with jolly and laughter. The acting was superb and editing great. I have to see it soon again. I am pretty sure I will discover something new about it then. 8-)
