well..it is like a numeric ranking as the ones on the bottom of course usually are the lowest ranked but...it is a vertical ladder of names...you usually only get to challange someone two ranks up...if they do not accept the challenge they drop one and you stay where you are anyway..if you win you climb the ladder...there could be 3 or 4 ladders...just like there are several different types of tournaments...it is just a picture of numbers but it gives one an enthusiasm to see your name climb the ladder...there is a system of ladders at a site called "it's your turn" ( many different types of games )...you can see it there demonstrated...
