30 days is too little. Take a couple of two-week holidays a year, and you have very little time for emergencies.
This year, I'll be taking a couple of very important examinations, and for a couple of months, I'll have to study and stay off QA.

I'm strongly against tournaments at three days per move. At the moment, I don't have internet access at home so, if my opponent moves on Friday night, I don't get to see that move for two days and have to move before I leave work on Monday, which means no opportunity to analyze the position at home.

I study at a university(full time), I also have "a couple of very important examinations", besides that I work to a multinacional software company, and I have time to play some moves here almost everyday.
If one can't play that much, just take less games, subscribe to less tournaments...
I've used about 3-4 days of QA hollidays, in 6 months...
I support the idea of 3days/move too.

play less tournaments you say but even if you are in one, it can last for months, shame to not be able to play any because of only 30 days a year vacation, or like i said, speed the tourneys up somehow.
