I have stated in the past that once QueenAlice introduces teams, I will commit my future to this site - not only will I create a "permanent" account, I will recommend this site to all my friends, especially my school's chess team.

On other sites that have teams, I have noticed that players can become very loyal to their team. Loyalty to a team translates to loyalty to the site where the team is.

Besides being another type of fun competition, teams would strengthen QueenAlice's already great community spirit. Players could befriend and learn from their team-mates.

Teams and tournaments would provide the foundation (in terms of programming infrastructure) for more complicated types of competitions (such as country-based tournaments) that have been previously suggested.

In this thread, we will discuss how teams and competitions between teams should be organised. I like GameKnot's method - where the captain of Team A selects x players to challenge Team B, and the captain of Team B selects x players, and each player of team A is paired with a player of team B based on rating, resulting in a x-board challenge between the two teams.

I think Miguel should watch this thread closely, to keep us updated, and to respond to queries and suggestions.

I will commit my future to this site

I couldnot resist myself to remind u that it is a free site and the type of bargainng u r offering appears dishonorable to the site.
Similar type of statement is also there at the adjacent forum post of urs.

Yes, QueenAlice is a free site, but don't forget that players can donate. Once I commit my future to this site, I would be happy to donate. The friends I recommend to this site, especially my school's chess team, may donate to the site in future.

It is not unheard of for users to say that they will stick to a site (or switch to another) if a specific feature is (or is not) implemented. Often, they mean it, because that feature is important to them. This is giving feedback, and is not dishonourable. I believe other QueenAlice players also want teams, and having more active players would help the site grow.

Why are teams important to me? This year, after finishing my O Levels (a major national exam), I will leave secondary school and head for JC (the next rung in the Singapore education system). I intend to go to a JC which has a chess team, and I intend to have all of us sign up and play as a team online.

ChessHere is a good site that offers several types of competitions, including teams. Their community is comparable to QueenAlice's, although there is a limit on the number of games I can play simultaneously. If I were to leave QueenAlice due to the lack of teams, ChessHere would be the site I move to. (At present, I have no plans to leave QueenAlice, although I am still testing ChessHere. I know implementing teams will probably take a few months.)

Enough about me. Let's discuss teams and how they should be implemented.

if teams were implemented i would like to see two tracks...miguel would set up national teams and we could have national competition and a yearly all play world cup...secondly, a track for any kind of creative team that someone wanted to set up but i think only someone who has played and completed 50 games ( showing commitment ) should be allowed to set up this type of player generated team. a team that has no games for 60 days should be eliminated. a national team could have 2 or more players to start but a player created team should have 1 to create but 5 players to play ( so that not too many small teams are created )..if the player created team drops below 5 they could not start a new set of matches until they recruited a new 5th player and if they could not find a new fifth player and did not start a new match for 60 days they would be dissolved...this keeps the player created teams 5 strong and active.

but don't forget that players can donate. Once I commit my future...

Whitekings, dont forget that was the members who wanted to donate that asked Miguel to implement the donation. I am afraid I agree with sakhan in this issue.

Concerning teams, yeas I would like to see it implemented here, but It is something already asked so many times that I am sure Miguel is aware of this.

What matters is that the option to donate is there, and I intend to use it if teams are implemented.

Beco, I'm sure Miguel is aware of this - that's why I'd like to hear from him. Is it on his "list"? How does he intend to have teams and team matches organised? Or does he want feedback from the community on how teams should be organised?
