I bet the formula for the ratings changes doesn't hold up when there is a large discrepancy between ratings during tournaments. |
During the first 25 games played by a player, we are trying to determine the relative playing strength. It is important to note that provisional ratings usually fluctuate greatly and also that a win does not guarantee that the rating will go up, while a loss does not guarantee the rating will go down.
The rating difference between the two players is very, very high. The loser's rating couldn't possibly decrease.

Well, I for one have no wish to go through all this business with ratings again. Taking into account the provisional calculation system (as I always have), it still makes no sense. The numbers just don't compute.
