I sent this message to Gambitshark a few days ago, about the Champions Ranking.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Kári!

I agree with you, completely. But, let's remember my explanation about the main objective of Champions Ranking (like I said in http://www.queenalice.com/topic.php?id=26351):

The rating and the champion points will give two reputations for a player: his power of win any games and make points (affecting rating) and his power of decision and quality to win tournaments (measured by the champion points).

So, I agree with you that the best players at Queen Alice aren't those ones, in Champions Ranking (and aren't the players that have upper ratings).

Champions Ranking = cups. For example, Michael Schumacher is 7 times world champion, in Formula One. But, in my opinion, Ayrton Senna was the best one of all times, the fastest and the most complete. Ayrton Senna won only 3 championships, but he's the best.

In "Formula 1 champions ranking", we have:

1. Michael Schumacher (7)
2. Juan Manuel Fangio (5)
3. Alain Prost (4)
4. Jack Brabham (3)
5. Jackie Stewart (3)
6. Niki Lauda (3)
7. Nelson Piquet (3)
8. Ayrton Senna (3)

But, Ayrton Senna is the best!!! Many people in Formula 1 say this.

Well, I think that you understand, my friend. The main objective of Champions Ranking is to give some prize - points to stimulate more players to play and win tournaments.

Greetings! Best regards,

Ricardo Ivanov

whyBish, that list just happens to be sorted by all tournament wins. Obviously the best players have the most wins in the Elite column (shogun and Conde7) and of course it doesn't mean they really are the best but they must be near the top. :-)

rbivanov, I do agree with you but would say that the tentative 2010 championship ranking tells a lot more about a players ability than the rating since we know that the ratings can be manipulated (quite significantly by some)! Assuming a player is not using an engine, winning Elite tournaments tells a lot about their ability. Bergman for example won a fair number of Elite tournaments before his current obsession distracted him.
