So all those guys in my office from India would be rich by Indian standards, eh? I know one friend, Anand (first name - not the chess player), has a lot more money than I do.

YOU SEE guys,
This column is about the best players..
What do you think about the high scores guys: DRAGON(2762) CORVALO (2708) WISKE (2706) those gentlemans are in special class in points...
We others look like amaturs with them!
Well. I dont know myself is okay player but have not fight to any of them (yeat!...hopefully later!)to test theyr strength..but myself play to braveheart and risky sometimes to challance the real best.. And then is of course the record holder MONTELBANO 62 wins out of 62 games that are great score..
There are some other players that are coming up real good after the real great ones as MORRISON,PENTOTAL,POPCORN.PEPATO...and that guys is for instance: FLENGMASTER,ALSKOR,NEMESIS and so on..
Talk about this rather than engine power..that must be in special column...!
HAPPY NEW YEAR 2006 ON GREAT CHESS SIDE:QUEENALICE!

Heres my take on the best players-
Miquel, for setting all this up for us.
Gambitshark, for being a great guy, a good friend, and a somewhat decent player (kidding about the last part).
Hippotro, for kicking my butt so regularly
Popcorn, for going out of his way to help my game improve.

All chess players everywhere, for insuring that I always have a game, no matter where in the world the army sends me!!

Can't afford an engine? I've spent only 99,99 Euro's (don't know American equivalent, as I bought from European site). For Deep Shredder 9 and was worth every penny. Sure it beats Fritz 8 9-4, a coffee is only $3.85 a day and people drink them daily, if you can't afford it you can lay off the latte's for a few weeks to save. Hope my advice helps. There may be some engines on net but are probably very poor analysis and better off doing analysis yourself in the post-mortem. The best is the chessbase database. You search 1st name, say Vladimir Kramnik or Vasily Topolov, and can research there games.

Razoman: Yes it is as your not using an engine but are accused of it (double edge sword, you are not using an engine but are playing strong enough to be mistaken for one).

Also note I don't use opening preperation here and usually play what my gut say's in the opening (I only select from Pirc, Siclian, Basmans once in awhile, dutch (vs.1.d4) and queens indian, and Owens (1...b6 against 1.e4 only, other then that 1.Nf6 then 2...b6), I wont touch Caro-Kahn (allthough its one of the best, but against my style so not for me) or the french, but may transpose to the Philidor or modern from the pirc (depending on what I think is the best at the time).

However I allways play 1.e5 vs. 1.b3 and 1...Nf6 to 1.f4, and 1...f5! to 1.e3 (transpose to dutch or the from gambit from the white side with black pieces 1.e3,f5 2.e4!?,e5 (I like the kings gambit).
