and that's the reason why you play as popcorn and not under your real name, to be quite honest my friend it seems that you guys read FAR too much into a person's name. Is it going to make you feel better if you play Frans Stander in stead of Morpheus ? I mean Frans Stander makes no sense to you and for that matter nor does Morpheus. When I am say maybe a IM or GM then I will also play under a nic purely because I would be harassed by players if I am a real GM or IM.
Just me two cents.

Hiding? Why is not divulging a name considered hiding? And if one wishes to hide their name from you, who are you to ask it of them? Why do you want to know? If I tell you my name is Jacob, does that help you? Am I telling you the truth? What do you know now about who I truly am that you didn't know before?

It can ofcourse to be important for fun and resarch and more to know for real against what person you play against..
Before Jim Morrison told everyone here that he is Benedikt Jónasson I knowed that for some time. In Iceland he is famous for his attack skill and he have beat some GM in great style with the white pieces in International tournaments in Reykjavík.(I have only beat GM in blitz and when they play against persons many at same time, so you see that Benedikt Jónasson/Jim Morrison is better player than me!)
Thats real fine everyone here know now that Benedikt Jónasson is here and we will joine some fun to look at his games and many proud to play against him.

Well said, Gambitshark! If any of us were to defeat a titled player on this site, wouldn't we want to know it? Of course, we all use nicknames on QA but this is not a problem because the serious players stick around for a long time. It's very frustrating to invest hours of work into a game against a 2300+ player, not even knowing who he is, and then have him just 'disappear' from the site! I do keep records of my games and openings played against me and it might be nice to know if I'm playing against the same person more than once, or on more than one site!
