First of all if the has been previously discussed let me know.

If you think it is rude regardless of what you say let me know. Also I am interested in examples of things I might say that might be considered rude. And things that have been said that are ok.

I speak to my opponent at ever move, I say things like e4,0-0,Nc6 and of course my favorite ++

Consider Q&K vs k and p at f2
3k4/2p2Q2/8/3K4/8/8/8/8 w
White has King at e4 and Q at c2
Black has king at e1 and pawn at f2
I am white I play 43. Ke3 expecting 43. ... f1=Q
44. Qd2# and say, "I learned this trick from Dvoretsky's endgame manual"
My opponent plays 43. ... f1=N
I say, "I was not expecting a knight"

Were these comments rude?

If you play an OTB game against a friend - no clock, no tournament, just a game with a friend - don't you talk during the game? Even make a comment about a move? Some of us develop friendships here at Queen Alice, even if we'll never physically meet our "friend". When playing with a friend, I like to talk. Not constant chatter, but talk. That's probably the main thing I never liked about Microsoft's chess site - the only comments available were canned. Takes a lot out of the game, in my opinion.

I have sometimes felt bad if I made a comment about the game that turned out not to be true. Saying "gg" for example when you think you have won and your opponent proves you wrong can be, well.... :-X let's just say you had better be 100% sure. Or if you say good move and then blow him away with your next move. %-) It can send the wrong message. I like to wait until it's over to discuss.

Everyone:
One purpose of this topic is to create a set of examples that my opponents can read and comment on. They could say I agree with the 20th, 32nd and 61st reply but disagree with the others. I can then gauge what I say by my opponents reaction to this topic and all the reply's
