This might be tough if Miguel hasn't done much with XUL, and I think it would require an amount of server backend work, but:

How about a Firefox extension that places a little icon in the status bar at the bottom of the application. The extension checks your status on queenalice.com and updates itself accordingly:

1: An icon indicates logged in, no games waiting.
2: An icon indicates logged in, one or more games waiting for input.
3: An 'urgent' icon indicates logged in, at least one game is nearly about to time out (say, in >24 hours), and requires your input.
4: An icon indicates login error, or not logged in.
5: An icon indicates you have just lost a game, if there are no games waiting for input.
6: An icon indicates you have just won a game, if there are no games waiting for input.
7: An icon indicates you have been challenged to a game, if there are no games waiting for input.

Clicking the icon takes you to one of your games, if appropriate, or otherwise to the queenalice.com front page.

It may also be desireable/necessary to use two icons instead of one.

This would not only be a convenience to casual users of queenalice.com, but the presence of this extension on the Mozilla pages could potentially reach new players. There is a downside, however: players potentially could visit the site less often, possibly resulting in a reduction in ad revenue.

If anyone is interested in programming such an extension, I have experience in graphic design and technical writing, and can draw up a more definitive design document, as well as design appropriate icons.

I like your idea, one concern is that only a minority of the members of this site are using Firefox/Mozilla, over 90% are still on MSIE.

There is also the problem of bandwidth. If this extension would download the "My Games" page every minute or so to determine what icon to show then my bandwidth quota will be gone in no time.

The technical side I'm not worried, that's simple stuff, and there is actually a ton of extensions with source code to start from.

Hm. If the idea is really that hard to understand, I retract it. The typical Firefox user would probably understand it, but then again it seems that the typical QueenAlice user is not a Firefox user.

No keep the ideas coming. Who knows it could create another idea and it could be a great one. Cheers to all .
