Wow - miguel joined in! Cool! If that's the animation where the winner gets the teeth, I totally agree: It's hilarious and VERY well done.

It would depend on exactly how the code was written. Most likely, the code says something like this:
white_new_rating = f(white_rating,black_rating,result); black_new_rating = f(black_rating,white_rating,result); white->rating = new_white_rating; black->rating = new_black_rating; |
In this case, the effect on your rating would be as if you played the game as black against another player with the same rating as you. In other words, your rating would increase by sixteen points if black won, decrease by sixteen points if white won and stay the same if the game was drawn.

It's a form of "self-gratification".

I used to play myself at chess: my left hand against my right hand. Being left-handed, I tended to favour the former.
Though it must be said, playing yourself in order to increase your rating might get you into those tournaments that you are not tough enough for 'on paper'. Which is probably why it was disallowed. I mean, who's going to stop you from resigning to yourself after three moves, four times a day?
