Well, they're not offensive, but they're disturbing... if playing OTB, I can claim the judge and have my opp "shutten up". ;-)
but I do agree with the "without knowing" thing.

If my opponent ignores my messages, and I don't know it, I may think they are rude for not responding.

Hmmm... chess is a battle of mind. Just let what the opponent said if they are disturbing... saying something is also one of chess strategy

Hi dear PGeon,
I disagree with you. There are specific rules of chess about disturbing the opponent in other way that on the board.
I think a check-box that disable/enable the edit-box (where we type the text) could work. If both are unchecked, the edit-box is enabled, else it is disabled.
When disabled, both will see there are no way to type (it becomes gray), and will know the door for exchanging messages is closed.
Cheers, Beco.

I liked Beco's idea. It sounds great!
Ehr, PGeon, the day that words will be ""chess strategies"" is the day I'll give up of chess. As you said before, chess is a battle of MIND, not rudeness... Beco's explained that, so I'll limit myself to express my surprise on "hearing" your opinion...
