This one is a silly and mystical question, but does anybody know what pieces last longer on board? I mean, I'm not talking about Rooks, and Kings, but which Rook (Queen's or King's one), Which Bishop, Knight etc?
I kind of know it in my favorite openings, like the Queen's Bishop in the Dutch and French take a long time to start playing, but is there any statistics about it?
Wouldn't be nice to pay more attention to pieces you actually Know will stick with you until the very end game?

Wow... I've never though about that! I believe the King's Rook lasts more than the Queen's one. And I have no opinion about the other pieces...

If you ask about a particular "Piece", that is a good question. But my games seem to always have at least one pawn left at game's end, and so as a "piece" I'd nominate "pawn".

True, superdad, but then robelix would want to know which pawn. Note his comment about "which rook". That, of course, would vary with the opening. It would be nice to know which pawns tend to hang around with which openings, though; that would tell the opponent what to watch out for.

Why do you want to know this robelix? I dont see the point.

Majnu, when I said Mystical, I meant it!!!
Certainly I'm not following my favorite writer's advice, when she said "Don't try to understand about everything because to live surpasses all understanding"!
So isn't it strange when you start a game knowing for sure that your brave soldier, that especific guy, will be dead before move 20? C'mon don't be such a cold heart!!!
Talking about pawns seems to be harder but it is not. Half a century ago you could already see books dealing with pawn formations and endings that resulted from many different openings. And you know what, did you know that the black pawn that starts on a7 in the French Defense, especially Winawer variation, is born to become a Queen? The pawn on b2 is the first to step aside recapturing the Bishop on c3, and the a2 one dies out of ill-treatment and careless handling by White players while atacking on the King Side!
