Round 1 Group 1

xmas 1483 2
J_Ricardo 1530 2
andreavb 1785 12
ravague 1800 8

Round 1 Group 3

Andreavb Average Opponent Score Round 1 (x1000): (2+2+8)/3 = 4 = 4000
tclout Average Opponent Score Round 1 (x1000): (8+4)/3 = 4 = 4000

Andreavb Average Opponent Score Round 2 (x1000): (5+2)/2 = 3.5 = 3500
tclout Average Opponent Score Round 2 (x1000): (5+2)/2 = 3.5 = 3500

Andreavb All Tournment Average Opponent Score (x1000): (2+2+8+5+2)/5 = 3.8 = 3800
tclout All Tournment Average Opponent Score (x1000): (8+4+5+2)/5 = 3.8 = 3800

What we can see is that each round the same amount of points is disputed, and so, every time the first tie-break also tie.

Maybe the first tie-break should be changed to the average ratings, not the average points...

Andreavb Average Opponent Ratings Round 1: (1483+1530+1800)/3 = 1607.67
tclout Average Opponent Ratings Round 1: (1595+1593+1274)/3 = 1487.33

Andreavb Average Opponent Ratings Round 2 = (1715+1876)/2 = 1795.5
tclout Average Opponent Ratings Round 2= (1715+1785)/2 = 1750

Andreavb All Tournment Average Opponent Ratings: 1682.8
tclout All Tournment Average Opponent Ratings: 1592.4

My 2 cents here.

Cheers,
Beco.

Beco,

thank you very much for your explanation!
but... note that you've used _nowadays_ ratings.
At the tourney, ratings were

andreavb 1779
tclout 1748

So, my avg opp rating is lesser than his one.
I couldn't find the exact rating of the other players :(
johntelker was about 18xx
JRicardo was 13xx
Ravague: 14xx
xmas: 12xx
l: 16xx
filhoje: 16xx
Reichenau: 12xx

The ratings is just an suggestion.

The real first tie-break is based on score, not ratings.

;-)

Ok, ok... I think I was not clear enough.
Let me state again the same opinion with more strong words, risking to incur in error:

I think the first tie-break has a bug. It is never used. It is allways drawn.

Why? Because every group dispute the same amount of points. So if we are making an average of my opponents score, and I played against all, they will average the same.

Look above again:

Andreavb Opponent Scores Round 1: 2+2+8 = 12
tclout Opponent Scores Round 1: 8+4+0 = 12

and so on...

Got the idea?

Best wishes,
Beco.

Beco, I understood it. :)
The explanation was good, the examples were wrong :(
Well, about your last post... it's not true that it will ever be this way. It will be if you reach 12 points - then, 12 points are for your opponent.
If the winner of a group loses one match, he'll be 10 points - and the sum of his Opp scores will be 14. Not a bug, but... the muchier(?) you do, the worst you get? (Scoring 10 points signifies a better tie-break against who scores 12)

Weird... :)
