The limit on in game messages has not been extended as far as i can tell - if it has it's certainly not by much. When talking to friends during a game i still routinely get the error message and have to either abbreviate what i'm saying or send a PM.
The check box to turn off in-game chat is a great idea for those who are not inclined to conversation.
I don't see the benefit to the limit on the 'about me' text. If people post huge long novels, nobody is going to read it! So what? Obviously it is (thankfully) impossible to post pictures and video (i assume that was a joke)....
I'm not one to post my life's story, but i like the idea of being able to post interesting quotes, etc (i discovered the limit when i went to add another (very very short) quote to accompany the one i already have)...
