I note that 'PB' has recently changed his info page to make it more 'jokey'. However, googling for him leads to no references to an OTB player of the same name.

Can you really get that good by playing on the internet alone? My guess is that he isn't an engine, as AFA confirms, but that PB isn't his real name.

One thing I realized. He is not as good as you think. On gameknot he quit playing (he is not active) because that site is more difficult and the rating is like reality. If you play against lower ratings you win zero and if you draw, you lost points. In this case you need to play against players with your level. There he is only +- 2228. :-(O)

One thing is often overlooked when considering the Bergman Enigma. Remember that QA does not follow the USCFCC rating system for ratings over 400 apart. The winner always gets at least a single rating point added.

So if you play a lot and win a lot... yes, but it takes a lot of commitment to finish 3125 games in three years and ~ten months. I wouldn't have had the patience.

If you divide PB's rating by total games played, you will get 1.44. This is the average amount of rating points per game gained and would indicate that a great deal of the games were sure wins.

So yeah, he's pretty good, highly committed and has by now moved from the site ratings champ to an unassailable anomaly. It might be a case for returning to the original USCFCC format.

But you guys should look back to his early pages, where he had many classic battles with GambitShark and his 'uninflated' rating was about 2500.
