I've been playing CC for a couple of months now and have about a dozen games on the go. I find myself forgetting my previous thoughts and plans each time my turn to move comes around. So I thought about using a piece of software to record my thoughts, plans, analysis each time, then refer to them next move.
Do you guys use such a thing? And if so, which program? Any advice appreciated.

Steve

Try this WinBoard 4.4.0 found in: http://winboard.en.softonic.com/

Queen Alice does come with a box for Private Notes to the right of the screen. They can be saved and the box even can be expanded. Won't that do, with the notes alongside the game they apply to?

Winboard isn't much use as it doesn't let you store variations except as comments which isn't a whole lot better than what this site already gives you. I use an old copy of Fritz to store my database of games along with the variations I'm thinking about. (And, to be explicit, I don't use it as anything other than a database, for Queen Alice games!)

I didn't realise Fritz did databases. Is it actually aimed at CC players? Also I've heard Fritz is rather awkward to use for anything but simple games against the computer.
I don't own any computer chess games at the moment but I have bought Fritz 13 and expect it to arrive in the next couple of days.

I've been using Fritz for years. I use it to analyze my games here at Queen Alice - AFTER they've finished, of course. :-D I have Fritz 11 at this point - 12 didn't look like enough of an improvement to get it, and I haven't decided on 13 yet. Check out training, including Attack, Check, and Defence.

You can create a file and import your games here at Alice, then have Fritz analyze them. Hope this helps.
