Dear Miguel,

Here some toughts that might help and improve the way private tournments works.

I hope you like the ideas;

1) Option to delete a tournment.

Usefull when some mistake during the creation... Maybe could be usefull even when a tournment already started.

2) Start with FEN position.

A must to create thematic tournments.

3) Double and single swiss system.

Double is very important also in thematic tournments, because the start position could not be fair. So you can play both colors with the same player.

4) Double and single round-robin system.

Of course, another good option.

5) People could ask to enter (more than 20), and the director select 20.

That would help a lot the director group people. But this should be optional, because it is not kind to "unselect" people. So, when creating a tournment, one can choose if it will be "open to try to join" or just by invitation.

6) Director could invite more than 20, and after 20 people confirm the tournment close.

This is nice when you have a lot of interesting players and you want to invite all of them. As soon as 20 people accept, you can easyly start the tourn.

7) Director must have the power to decret draw or victory of any games.

Very important to speed up the tournment, also to descentralize the work from you, and to solve problems and deadlocks typical of chess that need human intervention.

8) People should be able to create more than one single tournment at time.

This is also very important... I was looking for my private tournment that started 15/november/2006. If I cannot make another before this one finish, I think I will be able to create another tournment only after 4 years from now (4 rounds, more or less one years per round).
I hope this option will be implemented before that! :-D

Well... put that way, looks like an unfriendly list of tasks, sorry. I just put it in an easy way to remember.

Please, think about it with care...
:-)

Cheers and keep up the good work!
Beco.

PS. Please, if somebody has new ideas, fell free to join this topic.

Hi Beco!

About the 7th topic, I think that's a source for problems. As tourments implicate in rating changes a bad tourment's director could influence the rating system by decreting the game conclusion in a non objective way. Unfortunately we must think about this kind of situation. :-/

In other hand, there's a way to solve this and release Miguel.

Miguel choose some 'tourment's administrators' that can solve this situations (the tourment's director post in the forum the situation and a tourment's administrator solve it - like the FICS administrators does).

In this way just trusted members could decret a game result.

We have some helpful members like you (Beco) that's good candidates for that.

Max, your are right... Unfortunately I allways forget there are bad people in the world; :-/

In the other hand, I think it is better to risk thinking everybody will do a great job, and ban the one who does bad things...

After all, impunity is a brasilian problem, not an american one that I know. :-D

Cheers,
Beco.

Unfortunely impunity, corruption and so on is a human problem... yesterday I listened Mr. Michel Temer (President of the brazilian political party PMDB) talking about an american news. The presenting talk about two news: a good and a bad. The good is that the Congress is on vacation. The bad is that vacation end up a week! :-D

About your indication as truested member, I think in some qualities as a good player (rating level) and as a active member in forums. It's the best way to select future tourment's administrator in my point of view.

I think people who want to join tournaments should want to play more than one move a week, three days max for the TPM (time per move).

That alone would reduce the tournament duration by half.
