imo, uri65 has the right of it, though i wouldn't blame it to the thread starter, who's main fault (albeit unintentional) is the provision of the link to the game. the ongoing discussion is starting to sound like coaching imo

| I'm an excellent tactician (largely due to "How to become a deadly tactician" and "Think like a grandmaster") |
"How to become a deadly tactician" is an excellent book- giving that motivation to become a ruthless player; it has taught me how to hunt the enemy king! I have still not grown to be a very daring player yet, but I woe my tactical and creative abilities to it!

I don't think the original poster did anything wrong because, when he asked the question, he had already made the trade. He was asking ``Did I do the right thing?'' not ``What should I do next?''
Admittedly, somebody could have replied saying ``You did the right thing because now this move wins'' but nobody did. It's best not to ask any questions about games in progress in case somebody does say something like that. By the time I made my comments, the game had already finished.

Wow didn't notice this got all the new replies till now :).
In answer to the questions, when I asked I had already done the move and was NOT waiting on someone to response to keep playing. I asked about move 30, by the time the first reply had come in I had already moved a few moves. I was in no way wanting someone to tell me what to move or where, I was wanting replies and a discussion like this has turned into now.

Where on the site does it say this? I just went a looked and didn't find it.
Isn't that what learning is all about? Asking about things you've done and finding the better way?. Also I don't think anyone here would have told me what to do, they all play chess and know that it's not allowed/fair play. So I was in no way expecting any kind of coaching.
Anyways if you still have a problem with it let me know.

It is not stated directly in site rules but majority of chess community at RHP consider that
"3. YOUR REGISTRATION OBLIGATIONS (b) You will not use chess engines, chess software, chess computers or consult any third party to assist you in any game."
implies this:
"the rule is a blanket ban on talking about games in progress, or parts/off shoots thereof, to remove the chance or suspicion that someone is seeking advice to aid their game.
|
Please note that moderators on RHP delete posts with links to games in progress if properly alerted.
I fully believe that you didn't expect any coaching but the chance that such coaching can happen is a main reason for this rule.

and you've answered:
| No it's not to late, I will. |
Was it a tip for further moves? Or did you plan it anyway? Did he look at your game or was it a general advise? It's diffucult to draw a line here. Thus the rule very simple and straightforward: no discussion of games in progress.
Regarding learning - one can learn just fine by posting his game with questions after the game has finished.
