You don't need to do an experiment if the data is already there. The data in support of evolution is the entire fossil record and more besides.

Gil - The catholic church has many unfortunate doctrines. Their acceptance of the big bang while maintaining Genesis in the catholic bible implies that the catholic church interprets genisis metaphorically.

I have had several courses in Quantum Mechanics. Matter and energy are two forms of the same thing. The creation of particle pairs implies a creation of energy this is only possible for a brief period of time. The extra energy is constrained by the uncertainty principal. The product of the energy uncertainty and time uncertainty is 10^-34 joule seconds. If this should occur near a black hole, historically called a swartzchild singularity, one of the particles could enter the black hole while the other travels away. However the black hole loses mass in the process. This is called Hawking radiation.

The Big Bang Theory does not include a big crunch. It was believed that a crunch would be dependant on the total mass of the universe. Our difficulty in determining the mass of the universe allowed cosmologists to postulate a big crunch. However work by Peter Garnivich and others demonstrating that the universe is not only expanding but accelerating suggest that either a big crunch is not possible and/or there is crucial physics yet to be discovered.

Infinite does not imply a creator, what if it has always been infinite? A begining does allow one to believe in a creator. Although belief in a creator is still a leap of faith

Gil - I should like to meet you in person, but Brazil is too far away. You have moved me to reveal that I am christian. If pressed I would confess that I am catholic, but I regret the ngative impact of many catholic doctrines.

Discussions about doctrines can be usefull. However while focussing on our differences, time is perhabs better spent in building and maintaining a relation with Jesus. Many wrongs have been - and will be done - in the name of religioun. But only good comes from the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Hebrew 11:1-3 states clear faith will open our eyes and that there is no doubt about creation:
(basic English translation)
"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, and the sign that the things not seen are true. 2 For by it our fathers had God's approval. 3 By faith it is clear to us that the order of events was fixed by the word of God, so that what is seen has not been made from things which only seem to be."

Bless you all! :-)
