Evolution is an explanation of how living things came to be the way they are. Rainbows and chess are not living things so evolution has nothing to say about them. End of story.
Evolution does not attempt to explain the whole of the universe (or, if you prefer, the whole of creation). It just attempts to explain living things.

I have to disagree on this narrow view but at the same time you make a very good point: evolution can indeed not explain everything but creation - that is God - can! Christian faith holds all the answers to everything, even on rainbows and chess

Well, in that case, you have fundamentally misunderstood evolutionary theory. Complaining that evolutionary theory can't explain rainbows is like complaining that the laws of chess don't tell you the proper way to pray.

Evolution is a scientific theory. It has been tested by experiment. It is valid.
Any statement that can be tested by experiment is in the realm of science. Science requires evidence without regard to faith.
Religion requires faith. Creationist speak of their faith and that is appropriate. Faith can not be proven or disproven. The existence of a prove removes the need for faith.
There are creation like ideas such as inteligent design that do not directly contridict evolution. I encourage those that believe to maintain thier faith.
To disagree with science is foolhardy. Those who dispute evolution should find flaws in the supporting research and possibly design experiments to discredit evolution. Evolution is a scientific principal those who disagree should play by the rules of science.
Matters taht are not proven or disproven are fertile territory for faith.
My knowledge of the big bang theory is greater than the average person. You may be interested to know that the Big Bang theory was originally formulated by a priest working for the Pope and the Pope celibrated the result. The catholic church needs the big bang theory becuase the church needs a starting point. The conflicting theory The Steady State Theory claimed that the universe has always been roughly as it is now. No start implies no need for a creator. I am not aware of any living cosmologists that dispute the occurance of a big bang.

I thought evolution held that the reason we don't see it is because it takes so very long for changes to occur. Such as dinosaurs to evolve into birds for instance. If that is the case, what experiment was used as proof?
