| miguel... yes, IMO there shall always be lower limits in each tournament level. that's the reason why "open tournament" is being implemented to accomodate one without lower limit. |
Actually the reason for the open tournament is that it is the only tournament unrated players can join. It is a tournament for new players only. The other tournaments have a lower rating limit of 1 which means that only players who have a rating can sign up.
| kindly monitor the registration for the "masters' level". if the early registrants are rated below 2000, you'll notice that no player permanently rated above 2000 would enter the same tournamemt. the reason is obvious. |
Right now there are two established 19xx, an established 21xx and a provisional 24xx which to me seems fair (do you agree?). I'll keep an eye on who are the remaining 8 and I'll put a lower limit I see that the tournament is abused by low rated players.

miguel, my point is that...it's fascinating to see all players rated 2000-over fighting it out in one tournament. isn't it what "masters' level" denotes?
anyway, players rated below 2000 have always the chance to play with those rated 2000-over in open tournaments.

Ok, I decided to add the lower limit as you suggested. I left a 100 point overlap between consecutive categories.
