He just died at 64. He was US champion at 14 and GM at 15, if I remember correctly. He became the US's only official world champion in 1972, and I guess he never defended the title. Great chess player, lousy person. Very sad. Sure glad for what he did for US chess, though.

he was a gm at age 15?? wow.. that must of been an amazing thing for the u.s during the cold war:P.. i still think alekine was better tho

People forget the great ones who never made it because of illness. Mikhail Tal, Henrique Mecking, Harry Nelson Pillsbury.
