.....and Mikhael Tal was voted by 4 from the 36 members untill now. Also Henrique Mecking got 2 votes this far. .....but I don`t have your vote yet Count_Isouard, maybe you could add Pillsbury to our list? I am surprised that the reigning W.C., Anand is not on the list yet.
Bobby Fischer .............. 11.5 Gary Kasparov .............. 9 Alexander Alekhine ......... 3 Mikhael Tal ................ 2.5 Paul Morphy ................ 2 Henrique Mecking ........... 2 Raul Capablanca ............ 2 Aaron Nimzovitch ........... 1+1 Anatoly Karpov ............. 1+1 David Bronstein ............ 1 Vladimir Kramnik ........... 1

This list isn't credible. Bobby Fisher was a great player, but in my opinion not the best, over so many years of chess. His death has influenced the list.

Pershemia, if you check the votes, you'll see most of them were cast before his death.
I think why Fischer is so popular is that he was undoubtedly an inspiration and a hero for a whole generation. He beat the whole Soviet "machinery" on his own, he did so much with popularizing chess, especially in the US, and his 1970-72 campaign towards the World Championship title was (arguably) the most impressive and dominant ever. And in the same period, he put the biggest gap between himself and the rest since Steinitz. But his career was too short for him to be called the best ever, IMO. Personally, I'd put Kasparov, Karpov, Capablanca, Alekhine, Steinitz and Lasker all ahead of him.
I too think the list is a bit strange, some inclusions are a bit far-fetched, some were probably not voting for who they think is the best but for their favorite player. For example, one of my favorite active players is Morozevich, but I don't know how I could argue he's better than Anand, Topalov or Kramnik.

Yes - you have right TheAlchemist - didn't see the votes before his death. A very good player - but what has he delivered the teory of chess and what has he done as not many good players has done before him. I, however, think it's very hard to compare different players in a list. They have (had) different styles. It's a question of taste.

Excuse me TheAlchemist! Talking about a strange list, does Paul Morphy not belong to your ahead-list???? But I do agree that some choose their favorite player, instead of what they really think the best-ever is.
Am I allowed to change my vote?
