Morphy had an even shorter stay at the top than Fischer. Surely he was the best in the world in 1857-58 (or thereabout), but we can't really know what he would have achieved had he countinued playing, I'm mostly sorry there was never a Morphy-Steinitz match. His lack of longevity is his biggest (and to me a significant one) weakness, other than that, I think he might be the biggest natural talent ever, certainly very near the top.

You start this discussion and I don't know your purpose, but if you want a best result what about to make another contest? For instance: List the 10 better players of all the time. Give 10 points to the first, 9 to the second and so on... This way I think you get a more perfect result!
