That only makes it more strange doesn`t it? Growing up "after" this dark period in history, and having "jewish parents."

Where was there a "culture of anti-Semitism"? I'm sure there was somewhere, but please don't believe it was rampant throughout the US. I was born in 1950, raised a Christian, and my best friend was Jewish. I suppose there was some anti-Semitism somewhere but I never came across it. In fact I still haven't come across any face to face. I see it on TV, of course, and read about it in the newspapers. But the troublemakers get the publicity. The US is probably the friendliest country to Jews in the world outside of Israel.

["Yes, his opinions were crazy as well Hitler was crazy and the whole German people were crazy."
I think, we should be a bit carefull here. During the war there were many Germans which helped Jews, Gypsys and other refugees to escape from Germany, and to hide them. We also should consider the fact that in Germany in that time, there was compulsory military service. From stories told to me by my parents, out of their experience, there where also German soldiers which didn`t agree with their country`s policy. So, lets say, Hitler was crazy and all Nazi`s, and all those who sympatized, all over the world, were crazy.]
