hildaknight seeing as its generally 7 days a move its doubtful xSmashx is trying to distract the opponent. if you are distracted for 7 days after someone makes a comment the problem is yours. i totally agree, as do some of my friends, with xSmashx, because its nice to have a conversation running alongside the game, the personal message is too much like email. to outsiders the chess community often seems unfriendly, people are often rude and unwilling to chat. the easier it is to have a decent conversation with your opponent, the better this site will be...

I think all of you need to chill as the debate seems to be getting personal. By the way, my comment, "Are you chatting to distract the opponent into making bad moves?", was intended as a joke.

fair enough hildanknight. it was unfortunate that your comment was posted right as somebody else - i feel - started trying to derail the conversation.

Regicide13 is absolutely right that the chess community can seem impenetrable and unfriendly to new folks, and that applies no less online than in the real world in my experience. This website is much better than most for being open and welcoming (and is overall a really incredible resource i'm sure we're all very thankful for), but there's always room for improvement - or at least discussion as to what people's ideas of improvement are. I assume that's why this Feature Requests forum was created.

...you created a fantasy scenario where people would only be able to communicate on this site in-game...

That wasn't a scenario but an example to simply illustrate the point that game messages don't need to be like PMs.

And you again ask the same question as you did earlier. Is there a reason for the limit? Well, I don't know the official reason but I would say that it may have something to do with the fact that private messaging is already possible.

Exactly. And a discussion is what you got. So I have to wonder why you seem so unhappy about that.

cool hildanknight no worries. wasn't trying to be uptight. onceupon seems resistant to change... if you could just log in, check out your game, and see if someone wrote back to your message all in one go, or at least have the option of that, i believe that would be an improvement. it seems forum debates do have a way of getting personal, ha....
