| Any successful system will prevail until it has outlived its usefulness to its adherents. |
Unless, of course, someone thinks he or she knows a better way, and has the clout to force it on others.
Also, the intention of the very rich may be for their own profits, but the effect is still to create jobs. Remove their opportunity for profit, and the jobs cease, too. This is why the USA was able to defeat (economically) the USSR.

It is my understanding that socialism failed due to corruption, were as capitalism thrives amongst corruption.Karl Marx was never a socialist,he was a dictator.Socialism is about looking after one another, not slaughtering those who disagree with your own ideology. All wealth comes from the earth whether it be oil, minerals or food and there is enough provision on this planet to feed everyone. It is only the greedy few that cause the starvation of many. I welcome Obama as president of the USA.

Sorry ,I should have looked up Karl Marx Before posting. He was indeed a socialist.Only that some tried enforcing his idea's by butchering those that opposed them, this could never be true socialism.

SirKnight, your definition of socialism ("looking after one another") is rather unique, as well as idealistic. As it happens, though, socialism/communism (as any economic system) can only work if incentives are in place. Since the incentive to make a good living for oneself is taken away, one has to either have a strong personal interest in helping others as in early Christianity ("And all those who had believed were together and had all things in common; and they began selling their property and possessions and were sharing them with all, as anyone might have need." Acts 2:44-45, NASV), or have it forced on them (USSR). As it's unlikely you'll get a whole nation of people to agree to share happily with one another, the force becomes necessary. Basically, I'm saying that "true socialism" simply can't work on its own for more than a short period of time, if at all.
