ABOUT TO RESIGN
RESIGNATION IS A RIGHT BUT NOT OBLIGATION, (IN THE CHESS AND IN THE LIFE TOO!)
|
|
For people who still pretend resigning isn't necessary, can you tell me how this game is not ridiculous:

?
I mean, come on. It's really a matter of good manners. This is just stupid.

Don't tell me they still stand a chance.

Against such low level players I would probably play for stalemate too :-P

Some players seem to think that when they're not mated yet, there is still hope. I once had an opponent who remarked: "You always castle, you coward!" A girlfriend once wanted to know if we chess players actually envision the game as a clash of medieval armies. What I'm getting at: there are those with romantic notions about the Royal Game. The rest of us just need to live with that.
I checked the Rules of Chess section - it does not mention the concept of a dead loss, probably because that's not a "rule of the game" as such. But I agree it would be useful if the site included a section with pointers on that level, that a winning player could refer the unaware loser to. A couple of examples perhaps, with analysis or explanation added.
The most infuriating romantics, AFAIK, are those who play on with a King Alone against one of the basic mates: KA vs K + Q; KA vs K + R; KA vs K + 2B. In the most complicated of the basic mates, KA vs K + B + N, even I would dare my opponent to actually make it happen. There's always the third identical position to hope for, or the fifty move rule. However, if the site menu had a section outlining how to do these basic mates, we could all refer to it as an argument or a how-to guide. We're allowed to consult chess books after all, and any good chess book includes the four basic mates. If the dead loser still wants to play on, that's their right indeed. But they might then be convinced to stop hanging on to nothing, start a new game and hope for better results!
