Tournaments would progress faster if we had the ability to give an if move. For example I have clinched a spot in the finals of an open tournament. But I must finish my last game. Will be able to force my opponenta last 3 moves. If he doesnt resign, he can delay the start of the next finals by a month. If I could send if moves the game would have already finished and the finals would be under way.
I still disagree with the "Only those with less than 50 games can register for tournaments" rule. I could play in more tournaments if we could send if moves becuase my games would finish faster.

I think this is a very old demand. The words "conditional" and "moves" appear frequently. For example: http://www.queenalice.com/topic.php?id=2082. But time goes by and I think Miguel hasn't time to implement it. Maybe it’s necessary a lot of programming to do it well.
Another improvement to solve the problem you're talking about that would involve less effort to Miguel would be to calculate the winner of a group every time a game of that group finish, trying to answer the question: Can the pursuers catch the leader? For example in the tournament you're talking about (I assume it's OP-1330) you’ve been the lonely winner of group 2 since you won your other game against Edgar, because, from that moment on, none of your rivals could catch you. So the system could check this situation after you finished the other game and let the tournament continue without finishing the last game. This game will end at some time in the future but won’t interfere in the tournament; even the tournament could have a champion without finishing all the games. Theoretically it’s easy to implement for an experience programmer like Miguel, it’s just to check how many unfinished games have the pursuers, how many points would achieve if they win all of their unfinished games, and check if this points can beat the current leader points.

Jose,
I wondered how effort you put into determing the tournament I was refering to. I guess you already new since you are one of the players waiting for my game to fininsh.
If moves would help far more than determing that the leader has clinched. My primary complaint is I cant start tournamnets as often as I would like because due to lack of if moves games drag out longer than needed.

I'm for implementing both ideas.
Conditional moves seem a sound option even for non-tournament games.
Promoting a clinched winner seems the right thing to do - some members really drag their feet in tournaments, even if they have nothing to gain by it...
...which is also why I'm in favour of shorter day per move tournaments. The QA anniversary tournament, 1 d/m + 7 d, seems about right. But they don't come up often.

It does not take long to fill the open tournaments. If one could register for 2 open tournaments at a time. One at 7d/m and one at 30d/a that would be great. Miguel could try offerering different alternatives to see which was most popular.
