Bergman has played over 100 games without playing anyone in the top 20. Does any one want to guess what his rating would be if he only played players rated over 2500 for his next 100 games?

What's the prize for winning?

It could be a weakness in the rating system. Despite the rule that ratings are not affected if they are 400+ apart, the higher-rated winner does get one or two points added in such cases. So playing sure-win games works, but it definitely is a volume business (check the Open Games for potential examples of this strategy).
However, reaching Bergman's rather stellar rating after only 100+ games cannot be entirely based on said approach. Maybe he just plays a decent game?

Let's just say, I'm confident it will always be higher than my rating :p

I’m one of his victims. For no reason I could figure he challenged me to two games and then mopped up the floor with me.
Reminds me of the otb player I knew who could never quite make master so he started directing tournaments for low rated players. When there was an odd number he played as house man thus assuring himself of a win and a point or two rating gain. When his rating hit 2202 he retired, advertised himself as a master and took up coaching. We used to joke he got his master rating one point at a time.

To be fair, Mr. B. has entered Auto-Elite 500 and I am playing him right now. Decided to play one of my experimental gambits as White; the Nimzovich Defence (by transposition) should be more interesting!
